The configuration pages cover one competition shape at a time. Real competitions are rarely that tidy. A season splits in three after 26 rounds, a bracket is drawn halfway through a tournament, 36 clubs share one table without ever all meeting.
Each page below takes one real competition and sets it up from start to finish, with the actual stage names, round names and numbers from that season. Pick the one closest to yours.
Link one simple competition first
These walkthroughs assume you’ve linked a competition to api-football.com before. If you haven’t, start with API Import for a Round-Robin League, then API Import for a Multistage Competition.
π§ Which one matches your competition?
| Your competition | Start here |
|---|---|
| The league splits into play-off and play-out groups after the regular season, and points carry over | API Import for a Multistage Competition |
| A tournament whose knockout draw reaches the provider after the group stage, shown as a bracket | Euro 2024 Knockout Stage |
| One table for every club, but clubs don’t all play each other | API Import for a Competition with Conferences |
| Two tournaments in one season, each with zones and its own knockout final stage | API Import for a Competition with Conferences |
π Super League Greece Play-offs
In 2024-25, 14 clubs played a 26-round regular season, then split into Championship Play-offs, Europe Play-offs and Relegation Play-outs. The provider serves all of it as rounds of one league, so the split is built on your side: add a stage per play-off group to the competition, map the new rounds to them and create only the new games – the same modal as API Import for a Multistage Competition.
Each play-off table then starts from the regular season. In the new table’s Initial Standing Table Data block, switch the initial table to Enable, click Load initial data from another Standing table, pick the regular-season table and save.
π Euro 2024 Knockout Stage
The group stage is imported first, and the Round of 16 appears at the provider days later. The walkthrough finds the new games with Discover New Games, maps the round, creates the ties, drags them into the official bracket order, adds every kick-off time in the visitor’s timezone and puts the bracket on the site. It includes all 15 Euro 2024 knockout kick-offs, ready to paste.

π Champions League League Phase
Since 2024-25, 36 clubs play eight games each in one table. Left to itself, the importer builds groups from who plays whom, and that gives you dozens of overlapping groups instead of one. On step 1 of the structure modal, map all eight rounds to the league phase and set Put all Teams into single table to Yes right before Next Step – it flips back to No when step 2 loads. Step 2 should then show one group of 36. API Import for a Competition with Conferences shows the same switch. The Europa League and Conference League work the same way.
π¦π· Argentina Liga Profesional
Argentina plays an Apertura and a Clausura in one season. Each has a group stage split into two zones, then its own knockout final stage. You import every club of a group stage into one group, then split the standing table into zones. API Import for a Competition with Conferences explains why the split belongs on the table and not on the competition.
π What’s next
- API Import for a Multistage Competition – the stage-by-stage mapping every walkthrough relies on.
- Add New Games to a Multistage Competition – adding a draw from the API Leagues row instead of Discover New Games.
- Import Dashboard – keeping these competitions updated on a schedule.
