What Happens When a License Expires

It depends on the plan. When a monthly license expires, the premium features stop until you renew. When an annual license expires, the plugin keeps working, but you no longer get updates or support. A lifetime license never expires. Your data is never deleted in any of these cases.

This applies to Football Leagues Premium, Sports Leagues Premium, Sports API Hub and Tennis API Hub.

When does a license expire?

Only when a subscription isn’t renewed: you cancelled auto-renew, or the renewal payment failed. Cancelling doesn’t switch anything off. It stops the next payment, and the license keeps working until the end of the period you’ve paid for. Everything on this page happens on that date, not on the day you cancel.

To see the date, check the tag next to Plan on the plugin’s Account screen: “Auto renews in …” means nothing will expire, “Expires in …” gives the date. See Manage Your Subscription.

⚠️ What stops when a monthly license expires?

Everything the license pays for. What that means differs by plugin:

PluginStopsKeeps working
Football Leagues PremiumPremium shortcodes, blocks and widgets, premium admin pages, premium match page sections, Layout Builder layouts, live scores and API ImportThe free Football Leagues plugin, which ships inside the Premium download, and all your competitions, clubs, players, matches and standings
Sports Leagues PremiumEvery premium featureThe free Sports Leagues plugin and all your data
Sports API HubEvery request to the sports data API: imports, background sync and live scoresYour imported games, teams, players and stats, and the pages and shortcodes that show them
Tennis API HubEvery request to the sports data API: imports, background sync and live scoresYour imported matches, players and stats, and the pages and shortcodes that show them

For Sports API Hub and Tennis API Hub, that means the site keeps showing the data it already has, but nothing new comes in. Scores and standings freeze at the last sync.

What stops when an annual license expires?

Only updates and support. The premium features keep working with the version you have installed, including imports and live scores. You won’t get new versions, which over time means no fixes for newer WordPress or PHP releases, and no fixes for changes in the sports data APIs.

Is my data deleted?

No. Nothing is deleted when a license expires, whatever the plan. Everything stays in your site’s database, and when the license is active again, every premium feature comes back as it was.

πŸš€ How do I renew?

  1. Sign in to the Freemius Customer Portal at users.freemius.com with the email you bought with.
  2. Open Licenses and select the expired license. If it shows a renew option, use it. If not, buy again from the plugin’s page and activate the new key.
  3. On the site, open the plugin’s Account screen and click Sync if the premium features don’t come back within a few minutes.

Or buy a new license from the plugin’s page and activate the new key. Note that a renewal or a new purchase is charged at today’s price. See Manage Your Subscription for details.

Never want to think about this again?

A lifetime license never expires. You can upgrade a running subscription and the unused part is credited: see Upgrade or Change Your Plan.
